MODERN FURNITURE DESIGNER, DAMIAN VELASQUEZ, WILL HOST AN OPEN
STUDIO 4/27/07 TO 4/29/07 INTRODUCING HIS NEW MEDIA DISPLAY AND STORAGE
DESIGNS.
Form meets function as striking compositions are visualized and created
by modern furniture designer Damian Velásquez. Velasquez
will host an “Open Studio” the weekend of April 27th beginning
with a Preview Party, Friday 4/27/07 from 6p to 9p. Open
Studio will continue on Saturday from 10a to 4p and Sunday from 10a to
3p.
Thoroughly innovative and modern – Velásquez has been designing
and building modern steel and wood furniture for over 15 years. A native
of New Mexico, he has been featured in many local publications that have
highlighted the contrast in his modern design to that of the prevailing “southwestern
design” in New Mexico. Velásquez, who continues to
sell mostly out of state, is now realizing a shift in the local design
trend.
His business partner and wife, Julianna Silva remarks, “We’ve
been advertising in a national publication that focuses on modern design
and interestingly enough, that national ad is generating lots of local
calls from clients that have never seen Damian’s work. Since
closing our store, MODERNO (previously in Nob Hill), our existing customers
generally keep track of us and attend our Annual “Scratch & Dent” Sale. But
now, there are a lot of new residents that have never seen his furniture
and we wanted to open up the studio to current and potential clients
so they can learn about this great resource for modern furniture design
in Albuquerque.”
Damian will be introducing some new design work specifically for media
display and storage – a hot new item with all the sleek flat-panel
televisions and low-profile sound systems around. Clients really
enjoy working with Damian because he has the capability to customize dimensions
and color to fit their space perfectly. His standard furniture line
includes dressers, nightstands, beds, dining & occasional tables,
barstools, chairs, buffets, desks and dressers. All of his forms are
clean and straight-forward in a polished, elegant style. You can view
his products online at www.modernhandcrafted.com or visit his studio
located at 3212 Stanford Dr NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico (two blocks east
of University, just north of Candelaria) 505-884-5200.
